Albany Institute of History & Art - Kicker
Experience the Capital District’s rich heritage and enjoy the wealth of history and art our beautiful region has to offer.
Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art is one of the oldest museums in the United States – older than the Smithsonian Institution, and even predating the world famous Louvre in Paris!
The majority of the objects in the museum’s collections were either made in the Albany area or New York state, and many have national significance not only because of Albany's importance during the 18th and 19th centuries as a center for trade and commerce, but because some of America's most accomplished artists and craftsmen were living in the Hudson Valley during this period.
The Museum has over 30,000 objects, including paintings and sculpture, furniture, silver, ceramics and glass, clothing, textiles, and historical artifacts. While the AIHA library’s collection boasts more than one million items including photographs, manuscripts, architectural drawings and maps, in addition to more than 14,000 history and art reference volumes.
Enjoy the heritage of our state to the fullest at the Albany Institute of History & Art.
